This is the San Miguel Mission located in
Santa Fe, New Mexico. This church is known as the Oldest Church Structure in the USA. The original adobe walls and altar were built by the Tlaxcalan Indians from Mexico under the direction of Franciscan Padres in 1610. To think that these people were here in 1610 filling the need of a religious settlement is an awesome thought. The labor must have been a labor of love. Besides Santa Fe is over 5000 ft. above sea level and it can get as cold as -17 degrees F. in the winters time. Coupled with the cutting down of Ponderosa Pine trees for vegas ( the Spanish name for log support) with adobe brick made of mud and straw. This one is a must for visitors to Santa Fe. The painting is approx. 14"x20" unframed. |
