Commercial Art & Scale
Model Building

Thank you for opening my Commercial Art and Scale Model page.
This page contains various elements of my
commercial art work. You will discover that there are number of techniques
employed
here.
Most of the
illustrations I have done are for home builders, contractors and
architects. These people have a need of my renderings in order to
present there building to the public, before construction. In this way
they can show a home or commercial building as it would look if it were
in its place for perhaps years. Matured trees and developed landscapes.
If you had a specific attraction on the particular lot or lots that
would be worthy of advertising such as a mountain or river view, golf
course etc., this could be placed in order to show the best possible
landscape location, presentation with the building as well.
I use classic watercolor in
perspective or flat elevations. Whenever possible I photograph the lot
where the building will sit. I also do line art which is a black and
white rendition, in perspective or flat elevation. When this line art is
done and there is a need to color it, that is known as applied watercolor. I
would then copy the line art on watercolor paper and watercolor it. The
result is two pieces of art work, line art as well as an applied watercolor
page. This
work must be done, no larger than 11”x 17” format, a copier limitation.
The reason some of my
clients would order this process is because they need an easily
reproduced line art in black on white, to print on an office Xerox
machine for handouts etc. They would then take the applied art work for
framing in a sales office or web page. Also, classic watercolor, applied
watercolor and line artwork are all camera ready for publication on
brochure or in magazines etc. Both classic watercolor and applied
watercolor are easily put into a grey scale to go to print in black and
white. I do provide this art work on a CD as well as print included with
the whole project.
My landscape designs have
usually been done in line art with applied watercolor although I have
done some in classic watercolor which renders beautifully.
Scale models are built in
1/8, 3/16 or 1/4 scale usually but any scale can be used. I make my
scale models out of mat board usually. This allows me to have color for
the walls. Most of the roofs here in New Mexico tend to be flat but I
often build pitched roof requests too. These also are made of mat board.
The land is built of foamcore board. This board can be cut, to show,
the engineers gradations of the land where the building will be placed.
Without putting landscape in this is a simple layout but it can be decorated with tree,
shrubs, rocks, gravel, or just about anything to show with deeper
clarity, how the building will look in its location.
